A (half-done) review of Professor Layton: The Last Specter

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I traded in some games I didn't want (and they only took one, and gave me like five bucks), and got Professsor Layton: The Last Specter. Now, I had gotten the first Prof. Layton, and the second. I loved both of them; the puzzles, the story, the characters, the artwork, the cutscenes (oh, MAN the cutscenes are great), the minigames, they were all good. Heck, even the music wasn't that bad. The main "complaint" that reviewers have in these games is that, besides the minigames, the gameplay doesn't change that much. And....yeah, that is true. But most of the players and the reviewers agree that the formula for the games work, and it doesn't need to be changed. And no, I didn't get the third game (this is the fourth, a prequel), because I didn't have the money at the time. But I did read the plot on Wikipedia! :D
(BOOOOOOOOOO)
Oh, come on! Tell me you haven't done that at least once!
Anyway, as you might tell from the title, I haven't completed the game yet. I don't think I'm even halfway. But from what I can tell....yeah! It's about as good as the other games! The puzzles do seems harder, though, which is...good and bad, though you do have a lot of hint coins. The cutscenes are still great, maybe even better, the art is still great, everything is still...Layton-ish. And that's NOT a complaint. There's new minigames, of course, and they're fine. How about the story? Well, as I said, it's a prequel, and takes place before Luke came along. In fact, Layton has just gained an assistant (don't ask why she isn't in the other games, I don't know, and don't spoil it for me), and meets Luke a while later in the game. The main story is figuring out the mystery of a huge specter, or spirit, that is said to be summoned by the playing of a flute to protect a town. Oh, and I don't think the specter is a hologram or anything, because you friggin' see it. And that's not a spoiler, that's like the first or second scene (Oh, by the way, the specter looks like a freaking heartless. Not sure why). So yeah, without giving what little I know away, that's the story. It is actually pretty interesting, since this seems like the most supernatural thing in a Layton game yet (*cough* Diabolical Box). You can also move the walk and suitcase icons around if you want. Since I didn't get the last game, I'm not sure if that's a new feature.
OK, there's one more thing about this game that's new, and frankly, it should be its own game. It's called London Life. It's a RPG (weird, huh?), where you go around, doing jobs, and completing tasks that the townspeople give you. And next to all of the townspeople are from the games. Layton, Luke, heck, even Duke Anton is there! (O.O;). You gain money so you can buy food items, which restore your happiness (more happiness=more success in doing...pretty much anything), clothes, which give you stats to do things (like some buildings have a dress code), special items, which some tasks require, and furnature, which help you gain a roomate (Ok, your room is TINY, but you have a roommate). The game is very, very enjoyable, and a welcome break from the main game. Heck, sometimes it's even better! I would pay the same money I paid for any Prof. Layton game to buy a full-fledged London Life game. GIVE IT TO US!!!
OK, that's all I have for now. I'm eating. Bye.

An insane talk with no direction about Minecraft

Soooo...where do I begin. Oh, well, Minecraft is awesome. Oh, I know! OK, so I'm on this server, it's a pretty big one, I think it's ObsidianCraft, and the town I was living in went "into ruins" overnight (I guess the mayor left or something), and all the chests were unlocked. There were about 7 or so people living in that town, including me. Some of my valuables were gone, and I saw two people walking around in that city. I asked them about it, and they gave me about a whole friggin' half-stack of diamond and gold blocks (from the house made out of them that I assumed the town mayor made. How he got them is any one's guest). I thanked them, obviously, and sold them. ANYWAY, I joined this other town: pretty small, just houses in an area. Nothing really impressive, but I liked it. I bought an area, as well as my house. Now, this kind of worried me, but they said that the chests had to be open to the mayors. ...Ok, kind of scary, but I decided to go for it. Banndxstudios (a friend of mine) joined the town too, and he was kind of suspicious as well. I had a Silk Touch diamond pickaxe with like II efficiency, which the mayor kept asking to use all the time, by the way, and mined a grass block and buried a chest under there (after the mayor had caught us hiding chests in our bases). So one day, I decided to make a sort of pool for the town, in the wilderness territory, of course (Still haven't figured out how to do it properly). The mayor gets mad, saying I'm griefing. Uh...dude, it's in the wilderness. But nope! He just covers my pool that took me a while to make with some dirt blocks. I guess he wanted to claim that area and use it for houses, but...dude! It's wilderness at the moment! Anyone can use it! But whatever. I decided. "Hey, if he won't let me make a public pool, why not made a smaller pool in my house?" So I made a 3x3 pool, nothing special. But get this: He covers that too. Why? Apparently I'm griefing! My own house! So, yeah. Those two very annoying incidents, along with the fact that the mayors could have full access to our chests, gave Banndx and I more than enough reason to leave. So yeah. My rant is done, but I might continue the story from there. Ciao, noobs!

Quick reviews of random games

Batman: Arkham City 9.5/10 Incredible game, a free-roaming, action packed, tense, puzzling, filled with side missions and other things that will make it take years to get to 100% completion.

Pokemon Black/White 1: 7.5/10 It looks nice, but not much has changed. There is an updated battle system and even a Skype-ish feature (pretty limited), but nothing revolutionary. There's a new set of pokemon! Cool, I guess. White Forest or Black City! Well, if you don't have any Pokemon friends, you're screwed. The enemy organization is interesting, but the rivals aren't. Maybe a hardcore Pokemon fan would like it, or a Pokemon noob, but it didn't do anything great for me.

Kinect Sports: 8.5-9/10 Great fun, especially with friends or family, and it is good exercise. Different difficulties, so you can get challenged. The announcer and music clips are OK at first, but do get a little annoying. It's like a collection of minigames, with differing results. Table Tennis is OK, but sometimes the paddle won't reach the ball. Bowling is enjoyable, and looks nice. Track and Field is where the real back-breaker is. It has 5 events, and by the time you're done, you'll faint. It's fun, though, and one of the best for groups. Soccer is very fun, though you can't move around, only kick/block. It's still a fave, though. Beach Volleyball is fun, and it's like tennis, it seems even, but don't miss. Boxing is my personal favorite. You can't dodge, but you can block, which will build up a counter-attack. It's a fun workout, but not so good on multiplayer (the Kinect kind of freaks out).

Kingdom Hearts 3D Review

'sup, n00bs?! XD Gamertag: XxKaito9049xX (That's KAI-toh, not kay-toh!). ANYWAY, let's cut to the chase! I'm here to give a laydown about the game Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, or Kingdom Hearts 3D. It's the latest Kingdom Hearts game, and is for the 3DS. Now, if you want the short review, KH3D IS AW#$0M#! ...ok, kinda.

ANYWAY, so what's the story? Well, without giving too many spoilers, Sora-kun and Riku the awesome (XD) have to take a Mark of Mastery exam to become keyblade masters. Why? Well, since fake-Ansem and Xemnas went kaplut, Xehanort is going to come back. And...some other crap about Riku wanting to see if darkness still has a hold on him. It's not really explained very well. So Sora and Riku are put into a sort of sleep, and enter sleeping worlds. There are some pretty friggin cool worlds, like the world of Tron: Legacy and Disney's The Three Musketeers. Oh, and Axel comes back as LEA! FRIGGIN LEA!!! :DDDDD I'm not giving anything away by saying that, since the commercial shows that pretty clearly. Oh, and Riku and Sora are seperated, there's multiple appearences by the characters from The World Ends With You, and, you saw the appearence by Vanitas, right? Well...yeah. He only appears that once. Bullcrap. And there's a non-canon alternate ending video that you can unlock. It's not much, but it's kinda cool. And the ending scenes are kind of confusing.

SO, what's with the gameplay? Well, the command deck system makes a comeback from Birth By Sleep, so that's pretty awesome. Also, a new combat/movement system appears here, dubbed Freemotion. It's basically where you can roll into a wall or pole and start flying around a bit, beating the crap out of Dream Eaters (we'll get to that), and jump really high. Also cool, but I admit the novelty wears off a bit after the third world or so. There's also something called Reality Shift, which is different for every world. Basically, when you land enough hits, you can do things like change the data of the Nightmare to make it attack your enemies, or toss a Nightmare against another. It's pretty fun. Another new feature is Dropping. XD Sorry. Weird thought. It's basically another form of the Gummi Ship and the...Keyblade Board? Whatever. It's the same thing, except you're actually Sora or Riku instead of a ship or an armored Ven. It's ok, and you can play the minigame again whenever you want. There's keyblades, which generally get better the further you  go, and you can also get some if you unlock certain achievements. Also, a new "drop" system is there. And I'm not repeating myself. When you're playing as a character, you have a meter that slowly goes down after time. When that meter goes out, you switch characters (Sora to Riku, or vice versa). You can force a drop with the push of a button most of the time, but if that meter drops while you're in a boss battle, you'll have to start the battle over again when you go back to that character. There is a cool thing in the middle of dropping, though. You get "drop points" as well as items and munny, but you spend these drop points on temporary power ups or items when you switch characters. I got a few items I couldn't find otherwise by doing this. But here's the real new thing: Dream Eaters. There are two types of DE, Nightmares and Spirits. Guess which one is bad? ANYWAY, There are no Heartless, since these "sleeping worlds" are shut off from other worlds, so Dream Eaters will take their place. And Donald and Goofy aren't your partners this time. Actually, you don't even get the worlds' characters as teammates. You get Spirits. This is where it gets even more awesome. You can create new Spirits from special items Nightmares drop, and each spirit has a Link ability, or finishing attack. Sora's finishers are more interesting, due to him interacting with the Spirits. Riku absorbs the Spirits into his Keyblade, and gets a powerup. Now, if you have two Spirits linking at the same time, you get an even bigger attack. It's really fun to see all the combinations. Also, you can take pictures of the spirts with your DS camera. So you can "put" the spirits on your table and take a shot. Spirits gain points or stats when you pet them, play minigames with them, or feed them treats. When they get enough points, you can unlock new abilites. That's also awesome. Finally, you have a new minigame, called Flick Rush. It's kind of hard to discribe, but I'll try my best. You send out your Spirits to battle another person's Spirits and....Yeah. See the resemblance? Spirits are pretty close to Pokemon, but...is that such a bad thing? Sure, it's a ripoff, but Flick Rush is pretty fun. Think the card game War, with Pokemon. Or even the Kingdom Hearts CoM card system. Each Spirit has different abilities in the minigame, so it's a pretty fun way to take a break from the normal game. This minigame also has multiplayer (local, though). And one more thing: Link portals. These are special challenges, like "Beat all the Nightmares in 20 seconds or less." Others lend you Spirits for a while. You can even place portals, which will transfer to your friends' games when you get into range with them.

So, what's the breakdown on Kingdom Hearts 3D?
Pros:
Fun battle system
Spirits are awesome
Drop system give the game an extra variable
Finishers look great
The 3D is AMAZING, and even without the 3D, it still looks near console-graphics
Story is good.
A Trophy system adds achievements
Music is great, as always
LEA SHOWS UP
Flick rush is enjoyable
Reality Shift is great
Kairi doesn't get a line in this game
Link portals offer extra challenges
You get to play as Riku for the second time (KHII doesn't count)

Cons:
Story gets kind of confusing, especially near the end.
Vanitas shows up for no apparent reason.
Sora gets much more story, while Riku faces much harder bossES at the end
Bosses are hugely overpowered, especially at the end.
Drop system kind of gets annoying
There aren't as many worlds as KHII, so while you will put a lot of hours into it, it feels a bit short
As with most Kingdom Hearts games, enemies can get annoying enough for you to just run past them
Only for 3DS

My final verdict? 8.5-9 out of 10. The game does have its flaws, mostly the very annoying bosses, but if you have a 3DS, I'd definitely suggest this game. For a Kingdom Hearts fan, it's a must.
